Latest Activity. Initially I got some little jelly like blood streaked lumps come out when I sat on the toilet, and was reassured by the nurses this was normal. Over the last week though the discharge from my rectal discharge has changed.
Sometimes after ostomy surgery you may have the urge to have a bowel movement go to the bathroom like before surgery. This can be worrisome if you were not told about it before surgery. This is normal for people who still have their rectum and anus. One of the jobs of the bowel is to produce mucus to keep the bowel lining moist, which helps the stool pass through without causing any damage. We usually never notice it as it is mixed with our stool.
