Women fed up with being forced to cover up their breasts and nipples are challenging American laws about nudity and sparking a debate about the country's attitude to the naked female form. The year-old was charged with indecent exposure after she played Frisbee topless in her fiance's front yard. She had thought that the law in Colorado had changed and she was safe to take her shirt off when she got hot and sweaty during the game - after all her fiance had removed his top too. They were equal, right? I'd read an article about it saying that it was OK for women to go topless. I took my shirt off without thinking too much about it.

Throughout history, artists have seen the nude figure as a beautiful expression of womanhood, in all its glorious shapes and sizes. But ask the average female how she views her own bod in the buff and it gets a lot more complicated. Nakedness reveals everything we usually get to hide: vulnerabilities that date back to high school, parts you struggle to love or just outright hate , scars, stretch marks, etc. Women's Health conducted a reader survey in to chart that complex relationship we have with our stripped-down selves. Now, though it's just four years later, a lifetime of change has occurred on the body front.

Does the US have a problem with topless women?
Creating nudes and sharing them seems to be part of human nature. A collection of poems, stories and memoir on the subject, it takes a long hard look at the contemporary — and seemingly timeless — habit of sharing images of the naked human form. The idea came to editor Julianne Ingles after a short story entitled Send Nudes was submitted for a previous anthology she was working on. But since the advent of smartphones, sending nudes has also become normalised incredibly quickly: any woman who's been on a dating app in the last decade will likely have been asked to share nude pictures with eyebrow-lifting speed.
Anyone else shuddering? Is that OK or is it not enough for female performers to disrobe? Or do they have to pretend they like it too?
